During Big Ten media days, Gary Barta said he was exploring other non-conference matchups. Here’s five we would like to see with the Iowa football team.

The Iowa football team only has three games against non-conference opponents with one of those always being against in-state rival Iowa State.

That’s what happens when you have nine conference games, the most of any conference in the country.

With nine conference games and a guaranteed non-conference game against Iowa State, that leaves just two games for the Iowa football team to focus on scheduling. Typically, Athletic Director Gary Barta schedules two cupcake games for the Hawks against the likes of Wyoming, or Miami of Ohio, or Northern Iowa, but with so much emphasis and focus being on a weak non-conference schedule, it appears the tides could be turning in Iowa City.

During the festivities of Big Ten media days, Gary Barta went as far as to say he’s exploring other options for non-conference opponents.

So that got me thinking. What schools would I love to see the Iowa football team take on.

Here are the five schools I would love to see Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football team play in early September.
