Former Iowa basketball player Peter Jok is leaving the NBA G-League after two seasons to play overseas for Cholet Basketball in 2019.

I really thought Peter Jok would be a potential under-the-radar signing for an NBA team in 2019. His shooting ability from deep makes him a perfect, cost-effective candidate for a team like the Los Angeles Lakers. Yet after playing in the Las Vegas Summer League, it appears the former Iowa basketball star has decided to head overseas and play for Cholet Basketball in the French League.

Cholet struggled during the 2018-2019 campaign winning just 11 of their 34 games in the French League and finishing in 15th out of the 18 team league, just narrowly missing relegation to the Pro B league.

This is a fantastic signing for Cholet.

In Jok, the French basketball team is getting an elite shooter who has steadily improved his defensive abilities and chips in on the boards.

With the Northern Arizona Suns last season, Peter Jok averaged 14.3 points per game on 42.6% shooting from the field (40.3% from deep) in 30.4 minutes of action per game. He also chipped in 4.7 rebounds per game, 1.4 assists per game, and 1.4 steals per game.

While Jok hasn’t played professionally overseas yet, his game should fit in well with his shooting ability. He’s able to take a step back and be the second or third option if needed, and he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective as he is a great spot-up shooter.

Furthermore, many of his former Iowa basketball teammates are currently playing overseas, and almost all of Jok’s Iowa United teammates are playing overseas or will be playing overseas.

Jok is the second Iowa basketball player to sign with a European club in the last week as Aaron White announced his signing with Olympia Milano.
