Don’t forget about: Chauncey Golston
If you watch the Iowa football team and don’t know who Chauncey Golston is, I would be shocked. While Epenesa was (and still is) getting most of the headlines because he is quite possibly going to end up being the best edge rusher the Iowa football team has ever had, Golston has quietly went about his business on the opposite side of the defensive line.
Epenesa paved the way for the second string defensive line and led the Big Ten in sacks last year, but Golston had a good season in limited snaps as well. He racked up 3 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, and 3 fumble recoveries.
I’m not kidding when I say if there was a big play last season, Golston was almost always involved in some facet.
Some people are concerned about replacing the entire starting defensive line from last year but they shouldn’t be. Not only is Epenesa a talent upgrade, but I would argue that Golston will appear to be as well when things are all said and done. He’s got the requisite size (6’5” 270 pounds), talent, and hustle to make it happen.
