The Iowa football team has recently unveiled their gold alternate uniform to be worn against Penn State. Where do they rank among the others?

Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football team have utilized an annual alternate uniform in big games to amp up the team and help attract recruits.

Alternate uniforms are not new territory for a school like Oregon who uses several of them throughout the season, but Iowa has typically stood by their classic home and away jerseys.

At the end of June, they revealed a gold alternate uniform that will be worn against Penn State on October 12. It’s definitely something I personally did not expect. I thought they might do another black jersey but these gold uniforms look sharp.

The black wings on the shoulders are a tribute to the jerseys worn back in the ’90s, but obviously, the colors are inverted.  If I had to change anything on the jerseys, I would have made the socks all black instead of the continued yellow color from the pants.

Given the new alternate uniforms, let’s look at where they rank among the best alternate uniforms the Iowa football team has unveiled.
