The Iowa football team is in the midst of arguably the greatest two week period of recruiting in the Kirk Ferentz era. Here’s a recap.

This past weekend was a huge weekend for the Iowa football team as they hosted numerous recruits including 2020 quarterback commit Deuce Hogan who has been huge in Iowa’s recruiting efforts for #Swarm20.

Just two days into the following week and I would say whatever the Iowa football team did, worked.

Since Friday, Kirk Ferentz and his staff have received commitments from 7 recruits in total with 6 coming from the class of 2020 and the other being four-star tackle recruit Connor Colby of the class of 2021.

If you extend it back a bit more days, the Iowa football team has received commitments from 12 recruits in the class of 2020 and 2021 since June 12th.

Here is a quick rundown of who the Hawks got in the class of 2020:

Quavon Matthews (5’11” 165 pound WR from Largo, FL): Quavon Matthews is small but explosive, almost in the same mold as Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

AJ Lawson (6’1” 177 pound S from Decatur, IL): AJ Lawson is a three-star ball-hawking safety prospect who has the size to make offensive players think twice about coming over the middle.

Jay Higgins (6’2” 215-pound ILB from Indianapolis, IN): Although he is a two-star recruit, Jay Higgins is not someone to be sleeping on. The Hawks don’t necessarily need a linebacker in this class but were blown away by the talent of this kid as was our own Ryan Sikes, who loved Higgin’s tape.

Brenden Deasfernandes (6’1” 160 pound CB from Belleville, MI): A bit undersized, Brenden Deasfernandes received his first D-1 offer from the Iowa football team after seeing them twice in camp and promptly committed to play for Phil Parker’s secondary.

Reggie Bracy (6’0” 190 pound S from Mobile, AL): I’ll be honest, finding tape on the three-star safety prospect was tough, but I’ll let you take Marc Morehouse’s word on the matter. Here’s what he said about Reggie Bracy:

"Bracy had nine offers, including Indiana, UAB and Troy. Bracy likes contact and can track the ball as a defender. He and Lawson might make a future safety pairing in Iowa City."

Lukas Van Ness (6’5” 240 pound SDE from Barrington, IL): Lukas Van Ness holds 29 offers but he has always been connected to the Iowa Hawkeyes, and now he is going to be one after choosing Iowa Sunday after this weekend’s official visit. He is the 19th rated prospect in the state of Illinois and the 57th rated strongside defensive end.

Keylen Gulley (6’0” 165 pound CB from Largo, FL): A teammate of Matthews, Keylen Gulley committed to the Iowa football team just two days after Matthews did. Being coached by a former Hawkeye defensive back, Gulley has been in good hands down in Florida and is already a great tackler on film.

Yahya Black (6’6” 250 pound SDE from Marshall, MN): The Hawkeyes have done a great job in recent years of taking good people from Minnesota’s backyard and Yahya Black could be another one of these guys. He’s big and strong at the point of attack and he looks relatively unblockable against high school competition.

Aaron Witt (6’5” 230 pound SDE from Winona MN): The Minnesota Gophers lost a good one when Aaron Witt rescinded on his commitment. The Iowa football team quickly jumped back into the recruiting mix and landed this beast of a player yesterday. In nine games, he had 70 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks. His highlights were impressive as he often fought through double and triple team blocks.

Mason Richman (6’6” 252 pound OT from Stilwell, KS): Mason Richman was the first guy to kick off this 2020 commit bonanza that started two weeks ago. He’s got a good frame that can put weight on to play the tackle position for the Iowa football team.

With these 10 commits, the Iowa football team is up to 20 in the class of 2020, which is currently ranked 14th in the nation.

Next. Hawks could pull in best TE recruiting class ever. dark

With a few offers outstanding, there are just a few areas left for the Iowa football team to fill, but so far, this class is looking real promising in late June.
