Iowa football: Hawks could pull in best tight end recruiting class ever
By Andrew Wade
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey, a Columbus, Ohio product who is receiving heavy interest from the Buckeyes was on campus this weekend in Iowa City, and it sounds like he had a good time.
A three-star prospect, Lachey holds 22 offers with 7 of those being Big Ten schools.
After a great weekend in Iowa City that was filled with multiple commitments, I am cautiously optimistic he just goes for it and commits to the Hawks this week.
Lachey’s tape was a lot of fun to watch. Halfway through the highlights, I had to check and make sure he was listed as a tight end. The 6’6” 220-pound tight end was doing literally everything on the field. He was lined up out wide, he played corner, and he was returning kicks.
Speed is tough to judge sometimes, but he was blowing right defenders and had a few really nice, clean, and crisp routes that created a significant amount of separation.
Adding him to this class would be huge as would the addition of Theo Johnson, and with the way the Iowa football team likes to utilize their two tight end sets, we could be seeing them get early playing time once they step foot on campus.
Moreover, the historical precedence of this would be significant. Signing two four-star tight end prospects and a three-star tight end prospect that arguably should be a four-star given the interest in him would be a huge coup for the Iowa football team.
