The Iowa football team is a blue-collar football program, and it shows in how many guys outperform draft spot. Here’s the top five in the Kirk Ferentz era.

It’s not every year the Iowa football team has one first round pick, let alone two. In fact, they have had just nine first-round draft picks since Kirk Ferentz took over the program in 1999 with two of those coming this year in the form of tight end duo TJ Hockenson and Noah Fant.

While these first rounders have had mixed success, the exact opposite can be said about the day two and three guys.

There have been numerous former Iowa football players who were day two or three picks who outperformed their draft position. Why these Hawkeyes beats me. Sometimes it’s because they had injury issues in college, sometimes they don’t stack up from a measurables perspective, but one thing is certain, they always are top notch when it comes to character and worth ethic.

For this reason, we have seen quite a few guys leave the Iowa football program as day two and three draft picks and absolutely crush it in the NFL.

Here are the top five guys who have outperformed their draft position in the NFL.
