It isn’t a commitment, but it’s a step in the right direction. Yesterday, 2020 prospect Joe Moore listed the Iowa football team in his top 12.

Commitments are obviously wonderful to get, but knowing you’re heading in the right direction isn’t so bad either and yesterday the Iowa football got some good news.

Joseph Moore III, the son of former 1st round tailback Joe Moore, is a strongside defensive end prospect out of the St. Louis area. At 6’2” and 239 pounds, Moore is a 3-star prospect with intriguing developmental potential.

Two months ago, in a regional camp, Moore posted a 4.86-second 40-yard dash along with a 4.64 second shuttle time and a 28.2 inch vertical. None of those times stand out specifically, but with an NFL pedigree and the best strength and conditioning coach in the country Chris Doyle, the potential is certainly there for this kid to be an impact player for the Iowa football program down the line.

And now, the Hawkeyes are one step closer to making that a reality. Moore announced his top-12 on Twitter and along with six other Big Ten programs, the Iowa football team made the cut.

From a pure football standpoint, the Iowa football team can hold it’s own against each of these teams. What will be tough is going against his father’s alma mater and Moore’s hometown (sort of) team in Missouri.

According to 247Sports though, his eventual announcement is predicted to be the Iowa football team, which would be huge for the Hawks.

Although their 2020 class is shaping up to be one of the better ones in recent history, it currently includes just one projected defensive end prospect in three-star Michael Lois.

Adding Moore to the mix would help the Hawks solidify depth at the position and possibly give them their two starting ends down the road.
