The Iowa football held a recruiting camp on Sunday and ended up getting their first 2021 commitment in OT Gennings Dunker.

The Iowa football team held a recruiting camp on Sunday, which gave them the opportunity to have a better look at some of the guys they’ve already received commitments from and a look at guys they are considering.

One of those guys was offensive tackle Gennings Dunker, who the Hawkeyes gave an offer to on the spot and he accepted.

The 6-5, 265 pound Lena, Illinois native is the first commitment for Kirk Ferentz’ 2021 class. It’s pretty early in Dunker’s recruiting process to commit somewhere but obviously, he loved what he saw in the Iowa football program and what the Hawkeye coaching staff had to say.

Dunker has primarily played at the left tackle position in his freshman and sophomore years of high school. He already has great size and figures to only pack on more weight as his body matures. He shows good speed on when pulled across the formation and really good footwork.

Although he doesn’t have a rating attached to his name just yet, at first glance this appears to be a good get for the Hawkeyes 2021 class. Don’t be surprised if a couple more recruits in that class commit to the Hawks in the next couple weeks. Something similar happened last year with 2020 4-star QB Deuce Hogan who visited Iowa City as part of the recruiting camp and officially committed to Iowa on June 29.

As for the 2020 recruiting class, the Hawkeyes figure to be about halfway done but the crop of prospects is currently ranked 17th in the country and 4th in the Big Ten. Don’t let anyone tell Kirk Ferentz about recruiting against his age.

His recruiting classes have only gotten better with 2020 having the potential to be his best ever.
