Iowa football: Where the 2005 Capital One Bowl champions are today

Jovon Johnson

Jovon Johnson is one of the more underrated defensive backs to play for the Iowa football program. Johnson was a rare four-year starter under Kirk Ferentz and finished his career second all-time in interceptions with 17, 1 behind Nile Kinnick.

The Erie, Pennsylvania native was a junior during the Hawkeyes memorable 2005 Capital One Bowl win, and he set the tone defensively, tying for the team lead with 4 interceptions that season.

After his Iowa football career, Johnson went undrafted by signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he lasted for one season before heading to Canada where has played the majority of the last 12 seasons at. His time in Canada was truly impressive.

Johnson finished his Canadian career with 564 total tackles and 35 interceptions. He was a 2-time CFL All-Star and was named the CFL’s 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.
