The Iowa basketball team took a huge blow when they found out that Jordan Bohannon has decided to have hip surgery and could miss all of next season.

The hits keep coming as the Iowa basketball team could be without the services of guard Jordan Bohannon in 2019. The senior stated that he had been playing through hip pain in the last two seasons and did not want to do that anymore.

"“I want a shot at playing, but I’ve been hurt so much these past couple years, I just want to take some time and get my body right,” Bohannon said. “Especially having just one year left, I want to make sure I’m 100% going into the season for once.” – via HawkCentral"

Bohannon’s recovery could take as little as five but as long as nine months to be 100 percent. He has already stated that if he is not ready for the first exhibition game that he will likely redshirt so he could be eligible in 2020.

This news comes on the heels of both guards Maishe Dailey and Isaiah Moss deciding to transfer from the basketball program. Dailey ended up at Akron and Moss recently decided on Arkansas as their destinations.

Bohannon has been a big piece of this Iowa offense for the last three seasons averaging nearly 31 minutes per game. In terms of production, he’s averaged 12.0 points-per-game, 4.6 assists-per-game and has hit 41 percent of his three-point attempts.

So who steps up in his place? The Hawkeyes will have a couple of options although there could be some potential drop-off in both offensive production and veteran leadership. Redshirt freshman C.J. Fredrick figures to be the first option to replace Bohannon if he were to miss the entire season.

Fredrick was a three-star recruit and the third-best recruit in the state of Kentucky coming into Iowa. He redshirted last season but could get considerable minutes this season. The other options would be redshirt sophomore Austin Ash who played in nine games last season and averaged 4.2 minutes, 1.7 points, and 0.4 assists per game or incoming freshman Joe Toussaint.

Regardless who fills in, it’s terrible timing for Bohannon to have hip surgery given the departure of two guards so it will be interesting to see what this offense potentially looks like without him next year.
