The disparity between who believes Iowa football player Tristan Wirfs is or isn’t a 2020 first rounder is crazy and evidence some haven’t watched his film.

I consider myself a draft junkie. I read every article I can get my hands on regarding the draft, especially when it comes to Iowa football players. Although I am not a distinguished draft analyst capable of providing in-depth scouting reports of players, I know who to trust and who not to when devouring my draft information.

With Tristan Wirfs, I am learning quickly of people who not to trust when it comes to draft information.

Wirfs is an absolute monster, a possible franchise-changing tackle that can play left or right tackle. He is truly a special player, and some respected analysts have come to realize this as initial scouting reports and early big boards of the 2020 class make their rounds, and Wirfs is in them.

Some, however, clearly don’t believe this or haven’t actually watched the tape.

I am hoping it’s the latter when I find articles such as this one where they mention Alaric Jackson as a player who is destined to be a first-round pick, but not Wirfs. Jackson is a good player, but I would argue that Wirfs is a bit of ahead of him in skill and in versatility.

To be fair, they do briefly mention Wirfs in the piece as Jackson’s sidekick, but that’s not enough justice. At least split the slide to devote to both players.

Others, however, are already preaching the praise for the Mount Vernon native.

As a word of caution going forward, if the scout doesn’t at least mention Tristan Wirfs as a possible first round pick, they either haven’t watched his tape or shouldn’t be trusted. If it’s the former, then accept that sometimes it takes a bit for great Iowa football players to catch on with the NFL scouting community and if it’s the latter, then you should probably question the source of information.
