Matt Tiby

People may be thinking, I don’t remember Matt Tiby on one of Iowa’s big four rosters, and that’s because he never was. The 6’8” 230 pound Matt Tiby is originally from Urbandale, Iowa and spent a year playing at Kirkwood Community College before transferring to UW-Milwaukee.

At UW-Milwaukee, Tiby established himself as a dominant power forward. He started all 98 games of his career, averaging 13.6 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in his career. More impressive though is that he has the ability to stretch the floor with a capable three-point shot (he hit 37% of his threes his senior year) and passing prowess (he averaged 2 assists per game his senior year).

His senior year performance was good enough to be named Horizon All-League First Team in 2016.

Since that time he has been playing professionally overseas. Most recently, Tiby has been playing for the Demir Insaat Buyukcekmece basketball club in the Turkey Basketball Super League (the top league in Turkey).

Tiby’s presence provides even greater versatility to the Iowa United roster and will allow the team to match up well with many of the other teams competing in TBT.

If you couldn’t tell by the profiles, this team can score. Six of the nine guys are great three-point shooters, and they have four forwards who can defend the paint well. They are versatile and explosive.
