What to expect from the Iowa basketball team in the B1G Tournament

I would love to sit here and say I think the Iowa basketball team could be a contender in the Big Ten Conference Tournament, but their last two weeks have left me with little confidence.

I truly believe the Hawkeyes possess the talent and the offensive capabilities to beat any team in the tournament this year, and their schedule is favorable. They have a matchup against the winner of Northwestern and Illinois before taking on a Michigan team that they surprisingly match up very well with.

However, the Iowa basketball team has a lot going against them including the fact that they have zero momentum heading into the tournament after losing 5 of their last 6 games. Furthermore, their recent history in the Big Ten Tournament has not been something to write home about. They’ve won just three games since 2006 in the Big Ten Tournament, and they haven’t advanced past the second round since that time either.

If I had to place the Iowa basketball team in one of the three categories above, I would firmly place them in the category of Pretender. Let’s hope I am wrong.
