The women’s Iowa basketball team plays the most important game of their regular season tomorrow against the Maryland Terrapins at Carver Hawkeye Arena.

Lisa Bluder’s Iowa basketball squad takes on one of their toughest challenges in arguably the most important game of their regular tomorrow morning in Carver Hawkeye Arena.

The Maryland Terrapins enter this game ranked 7th in the nation with a 23-2 record. They are also currently in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten conference with a 12-2 record.

Needless to say, the Terrapins are supremely talented and it’s going to be one heck of a game.

For the #14 Iowa basketball team that enters this game 20-5, they have the opportunity to not only knock off the 1st place team in the Big Ten, but they also have the opportunity to move into first place with a victory.

Currently, the women are in second with a 11-3 conference record and considering this is the only game they will play against Maryland, a win would give them the tiebreaker against the Terrapins. Furthermore, the third place team, Rutgers, is 9-4 in the conference and also lost their only game against the women’s Iowa basketball team this season.

A win tomorrow allows the Hawks to control their own destiny heading into the conference basketball tournament, and it would also boost their already strong NCAA tournament resume. If the season were to end today, the women would be slated for a #3 seed in the tournament, but a win over the #7 team in the nation could propel the Hawks into #2 seed territory.

Either way, a #2 or #3 seed would mean the Hawkeyes wouldn’t need to face one of the top four teams in the country until the Elite Eight.
