Zach Abercrumbia, Defensive Line, Rice

Abercrumbia, a redshirt junior who would be eligible immediately, would be a plug and play option for the Iowa football team, and it’s an option they have began exploring. In fact, outside of the Michael Sleep-Dalton news, Abercrumbia is the only player on the transfer portal officially linked to the Hawks in any way, shape or form as he took a visit to Iowa City the first weekend in February.

As a  6’2”, 286-pound interior defensive lineman, he recorded 55 tackles and 4.5 sacks this past season in route to being considered by some, Rice’s most valuable player on defense.

His impact went above and beyond Rice’s standards, however.

According to Pro Football Focus, Abercrumbia was one of the best run defenders in all of Conference USA this past season.

Bringing in Abercrumbia would solidify the depth chart at interior defensive line especially if Daviyon Nixon does ultimately decide to transfer out of Iowa City.
