This team could be dangerous

If you’ve been reading our three takeaway articles after each men’s basketball performance, then you are pretty familiar with the final takeaway. It almost always has to do with this team’s season. Against Michigan State, the Iowa basketball team showed me it could compete against good teams, but needed to close better. Against Minnesota, it made me realize this Hawkeyes team still had a lot of work to do, despite the excitement of this team’s potential, and finally, against Michigan, this team showed me it could win the big game.

Now against, Indiana, this team finally got over the hump and won a huge road game. What’s more impressive though is that they did it without any production from emerging stud Luka Garza or streaky shooter Isaiah Moss. The two combined for 4 points on 1 of 8 shooting while committing 7 fouls and 3 turnovers combined. To be fair, they did combine for 7 rebounds in their 27 total minutes of play, but still.

With those two guys struggling, Tyler Cook and Jordan Bohannon stepped up huge (as they should as the leaders of this team). This has been a recurring theme though. The Iowa basketball team has so many scorers on its team, but rarely have we seen it all come together in a single game. There’s a lot of positive to take away from that.

First, imagine if all of these guys were shooting and contributing well on the offensive side of the ball? This offense would be almost unstoppable.

Second, this team is becoming very keen on picking each other up. When one person is struggling, another person steps up. With the amount of weapons this team has offensively, they could be tough to match up against in the NCAA tournament, especially against teams unfamiliar with their style of play.
