Iowa football: Top three performances from close Outback Bowl victory
By Andrew Wade
Jake Gervase
This former walk-on from Davenport, Iowa had himself quite a final day in an Iowa football uniform. Despite dropping two earlier interceptions, Gervase picked the most clutch time to put some stick ’em on his hands when he caught the dropped the ball by Mississippi State in the end zone on a first down throw by Nick Fitzgerald.
Gervase managed to take the ball 28 yards out of the end zone setting up a short drive by the Hawkeyes offense to kick a field goal to make the game 27-22.
Outside of the dropped interceptions, Gervase had a fantastic day in coverage as illustrated so eloquently by Pro Football Focus.
Gervase also added six tackles on the day to finish out the final game of his career with the Iowa football program.
These guys listed aren’t the only ones that deserve some credit as the game was truly a team effort.
Honorable mention though would go to Miguel Recinos who scored nine points for Iowa, Nick Niemann who was all over the field, and Matt Hankins who had a solid day in coverage.
