Geno Stone

Is there any play more memorable for Iowa football fans Saturday than Geno Stone’s interception return for a touchdown with Iowa down ten points in the fourth? Maybe the fake field goal?

Either way, that play was a huge momentum shifting play that put life back in the team. It wasn’t just a big moment for the Hawks though, it was a big moment for Stone himself. Stone, a Pennsylvania native wanted to attend Penn State, but the offer never came in. In a twist of fate, the sophomore safety almost had the perfect revenue against the Nittany Lions.

It wasn’t just the interception that sets a part his performance from other Hawkeyes, however. He was flying around the ball all day, and he is a huge reason why the Hawks are starting to play a more modern 4-2-5 defense. Geno Stone is forcing them to give him playing time.

For the game, he had four tackles to go along with his interception, and his performance garnered player of the game honors according to Pro Football Focus as he finished tied for the best grade of the game.
