This past weekend the IceHawks played the Iowa State Cyclones. This is a review of the weekends games for the Iowa Hawkeyes hockey team.

This weekend the University of Iowa IceHawks are on a bye week, so I thought I’d get you caught up on the season so far. My last article talked about how the IceHawks were off to a 2-0-1 start.  This past weekend they had a home and home series against the Iowa State Cyclones, where the Iowa Hawkeyes unfortunately lost both games. Here is a recap of both games.

Last Friday nights game took place in Ames. The Iowa Hawkeyes were given their first regulation loss by the score of 6-2. The Cyclones got out to an early 4-0 lead until Freshman Jake Rott got them on the board in the second period. During the game, the IceHawks lost their Captain Devyn Kelly to a Head Contact major which resulted in a game misconduct. Almost 4 minutes later, Sophomore Jake Vennitti scored the second goal of the game for the IceHawks on the Power Play. The Cyclones then added 2 more goals in the 3rd period to close out the game.

Game 2 had a pretty decent crowd watching the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Coral Ridge Mall to take on the Cyclones in the second game of back to back contests. The 1st period went scoreless for 20 minutes.  Finally, during the middle of the second period the IceHawks got on the board to take a 1-0 lead with a goal by Freshman Stefan Radovic. About 10 minutes later, Iowa State tied the game up at one goal apiece. On to the 3rd period, Iowa scored their second goal of the contest five minutes into the 3rd period by a goal from Assistant Captain Eric DSouza. Things were looking up for the IceHawks to get the win against their rival Cyclones. But then a 5 on 3 power play for the Cyclones tied the game up before they managed to tally the winning goal. The IceHawks lost the hard-fought game 3-2.

Next home game is Saturday the 27th at 5pm against the Illinois State club team. Come cheer the IceHawks on to victory!

Go Hawks!
