Other Reiver’s turned Hawkeyes

Nick Easley and Mekhi Sargent are not the only former Reivers that have played for the Iowa football team, but they are certainly the most noteworthy at this time. Seven other Reivers have played for the Iowa Hawkeyes and only one year did nobody from Iowa Western sign a scholarship or walk on to Iowa.

Here is the list of Reiver’s turned Hawkeyes:

Dom Dafney (2015) is currently a reserve wide receiver on the Hawkeyes. Last season he saw the field sparingly mostly providing support on special teams. He is currently a junior, and he is originally from Valley High School in West Des Moines, IA.

Ronald Nash (2014) is no longer with the Iowa football program after spending two years on the team. He caught two passes for 14 yards in 2016.

Andrew Stone (2012) redshirted his first season with the Hawkeyes before playing in limited action his final two seasons. He finished his career in the Iowa football program with four catches, 48 yards, and one touchdown.

Sean Skradis (2011) transferred to Iowa, but he is not listed on any historical Iowa rosters.

Eric Simmons (2011) redshirted his first year in the Iowa football program. He appeared in 28 games on the offensive line as a reserve player.

Dan Heiar (2010) never suited up for the Hawkeyes after accepting a scholarship offer to the school. Heiar was a three-star tackle who had received offers from Michigan State, Minnesota, and Rutgers.

Joe Audlehelm (2009) was an honorable mention All-American wide receiver in college. He only saw playing time in two games, recording three tackles on special teams.

As the Iowa Western Reivers continue to build their program, expect to see more former community college players from Council Bluffs making their way into the Iowa football program. It certainly is a luxury to have for Kirk Ferentz right in his back yard, and he agrees

"Yeah, it’s all good stuff, but I think it speaks highly of their program. These are two guys (Easley & Sargent) that have really fit in with what we’re doing, and they’ve done it really kind of seamlessly. They’ve just come in and gone to work and really done a good job."

The Iowa Western Reivers are currently 3-0 and are set to face Garden City Community College September 22nd. If you ever have an opportunity to catch a game, you should. You never know which players might end up in the black and yellow in a year or two.
