We are two days away from the Iowa football team playing and underrated Iowa State football team. Here are three reasons why the Hawks will win Saturday.
Dear Old Gold has been hammering home this in-state rivalry all week and for good reason. It’s going to be a fantastic game as both teams are in position to make some noise in the NCAA this year. Despite Iowa State finally being able to compete (to an extent) with the Iowa football program in talent, the Hawks will undoubtedly win this game.
I, by no means, expect this to be a blowout, but I do think there are several key advantages the Iowa Hawkeyes possess when taking on the lowly Iowa State Cyclones. The Hawks head into this game off a blowout victory over NIU while the Cyclones will be playing their first game of the season after last weekend’s cupcake scheduling of FCS program South Dakota State was canceled due to inclement weather.
Typically football programs use the first weekend as a tune-up for their bigger games. Thankfully for Iowa, they needed it. There were many things to love about the win over NIU but as we alluded to earlier in the week, there were many opportunities for improvement from Kirk’s team. Most of those opportunities are correctable mistakes that can be fixed with coaching over the course of the week and Kirk Ferentz has proven time and time again that fundamentals, technique, and limited errors are the keys to the Iowa football team being successful.
If those issues are correct and the Hawkeye’s offense can get back on track this could be a long day for Matt Campbell and his Cyclones.
Here are the three main reasons why the Hawkeyes will beat the Cyclones Saturday afternoon.
