Iowa football: Top four storylines to follow in the Cy-Hawk trophy game.

The University of Iowa football program takes on Iowa State Saturday afternoon in the annual Cy-Hawk trophy game. Here are four key storylines to follow.
This week is exciting for the state of Iowa. It’s the game that any college football fan in the state looks forward to: The University of Iowa football team taking on The Iowa State University football team. The Hawkeyes verse the Cyclones.
No matter what kind of talent either team brings into this game, it is almost always competitive and exciting to watch. Both teams get up for this game, and it can make or break a season for the Hawks early on. Win this game as expected and no big deal. Lose this game, however, and that’s typically considered a blemish on Iowa’s record if they are in the conversation for national ranking.
This year is a little different though. Iowa State is actually bringing a solid football team to the table–a team that won eight games including the Liberty Bowl over #19 Memphis along with key victories over #3 Oklahoma and #4 TCU. The Cyclones even got as high as #14 in the rankings under second-year head coach Matt Campbell.
Cyclone football being good adds a little more intrigue to this matchup considering Iowa has historically dominated this game in the wins column as I noted earlier this week.
2018 is a new year, however, and we aren’t exactly sure what Iowa State is bringing to the table. We know there are a few guys still around from last year’s surprise team, but that’s about it after their first game was canceled due to lightning.
With only one game played, we have a better idea of what the Hawkeyes are bringing to the table but there are still question marks and things that need to be answered.
