Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson are currently on the Mackey Award preseason Watch List.

Hawkeye Football tight ends Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson were named to the Mackey Award Watch List today. The two could possibly go down as the best tight end duo in the country this season. Fant, arguably, is the best tight end in the nation already, however us Hawkeye fans believe him to indeed be the best. Hockenson makes the spectacular partner in this incredible duo.

The Mackey Award is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding tight-end. This award was established in 2000 by Nassau County Sports Commission. The tight end needs to best himself in sportsmanship, academics and community values, that of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, who the award is honored by.

Noah Fant’s 2017 season was absolutely spectacular. Fant accounted for just under 500 yards receiving (494) with 11 touchdowns on 30 receptions. Offenses would kill for a tight end as tough and as skilled as Noah Fant, and the Hawkeyes are beyond lucky to have such a talented player on offense. TJ Hockenson also had a stellar 2017 season. He grabbed 24 passes for 320 yards with three touchdowns on the year. Hockenson is looking to have another breakout year along with his duo partner in crime, Noah Fant. Watch out, Big Ten.

This year is definitely going to be fun for Hawkeye football with these two yet again at the tight end position. The Mackey Award has 64 tight ends on their watch list this year, but I have a feeling that one of these two have a great shot at the award. With the performances they put up last year, expect another great one, if not better. We’re 43 days away from seeing these two in action, and we are all extremely pumped for the 2018 season.
