Iowa Basketball: Weekly Big Ten Power Rankings
By Kenny Levine
3. Ohio State (13-4, 4-0)
I was very tempted to put Ohio State ahead of Purdue and possibly even Michigan State but I couldn’t do that quite yet. The Buckeyes were not expected to do much this year but Chris Holtmann has done a fantastic job in his first year for the Scarlet and Grey. OSU has 4 losses, none of which are “bad” losses and also have some key wins on the resume as well.
Ohio State beat Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday. However they shocked the college basketball world by dominating previously #1 ranked Michigan State on Sunday. Keita Bates-Diop is playing at a different level for the Buckeyes. He had 27 points and 13 rebounds at Iowa and followed that up with 32 points on 12/21 shooting in the upset win. It makes you wonder how Ohio State would have done had Bates-Diop been healthy last season.
The Buckeyes look to continue their run this week when they host Maryland on Thursday followed by a trip to Rutgers on Sunday.
