QB Spencer Petras

Bringing in a quarterback into every class is important due to the nature of the position, and the chances that back-ups will look elsewhere for playing time. It is very possible Tyler Wiegers and Ryan Boyle could look for starter roles come January. Which leaves starter Nate Stanley and redshirt freshmen Peyton Mansell.

California quarterback Spencer Petras comes to Iowa (expectedly in January) with a chance to compete for the backup job in the Spring. The former Oregon State commit also had offers from Cal and Nebraska. He is a rare 4-star quarterback coming to Iowa that can learn under Ken O’Keefe.

OL Jeff Jenkins

The first of this class to pledge to the Hawkeyes back in January, Jenkins is the top rated offensive lineman from Illinois in the class of 2018. He comes from the dominant Prairie Ridge program of Crystal Lake, and could be in line to be the next great lineman under the tutelage of both Brian Ferentz and Tim Posalek.

The Hawkeyes have a lot of depth in the offensive line room. They lose Ike Boettger, Sean Welsh and Boone Myers to graduation. Iowa wasn’t afraid to play two freshmen, however in 2017 with both Tristan Wirfs and Alaric Jackson starting tackle positions. Jenkins could see a red-shirt in year one, but anything is possible as this year has proven.

WR Tyrone Tracy

One of a trio of impact players coming to the Hawkeyes in 2018 from Indianpolis, Tracy could be moving from running back to wide receiver next season. Receiving offers from four other Big Ten schools, Tracy joins a young wide receiver room that offers playing time potentially right away. And, with the big arm of Nate Stanley, it could be a sleeper for one of the more productive groups in the conference.

The only senior leaving is Matt VandeBerg, but it will be interesting to see if some of the upper classmen who have been passed up on the depth chart this season are around come the Spring, and if not, how will the depth chart look?

OL Jack Plumb

One of the top players out of Wisconsin, the 6’8 high school tight end is expected to take a spot on the offensive line in Brian Ferentz’ offense. With an extremely crowded tight end room for the near future, Plumb could be in line to be like past players like Brandon Scherff who moved to the offensive line when coming to Iowa.

WR Calvin Lockett

Not only did the Hawkeyes go to California to get a quarterback, but they got a wideout from the ‘Sunshine State’. No stone was un-turned when it came to adding to the Hawkeyes of the future.

Lockett was one of the December additions to #Swarm18 when he decided to go with Iowa over some in-state choices. Offers from all over the country came in for the lengthy receiver who like many young players on the 2018 Hawkeyes could see the field right away with a good summer camp.

RB Henry Geil

One of the ‘fan favorites’ on Twitter of the upcoming class due to his encouraging other players to join up with the Hawkeyes, Geil could be the gem of the group.

The running back from ‘Titletown’ joins a Hawkeye running back group that losses Akrum Wadley and James Butler. Freshmen Ivory Kelly-Martin and Toren Young played in 2017, and the door is wide open for someone to establish themselves as the starter going into the 2018 campaign. It will be one of the most intriguing positional developments.

OL Cody Ince

More talent coming from Wisconsin to Iowa. Cody Ince could potentially be an interior lineman rather quickly for Iowa protecting a fellow Wisconsin-native in Nate Stanley.

WR/RB Samson Evans

One of the most accomplished Illinois high school football players in recent memory, the Hawkeyes are getting a great one in Samson Evans.

No matter how it happens, getting the ball in his hands will be the task for the coaches as soon as he gets on campus. Evans will be a major weapon for Iowa for the next four to five seasons.
