Iowa Football: Season Review Part II Games Five through Eight
For the Hawkeyes, there are times when a trip to play the Northwestern Wildcats may be a problem. Northwestern had been playing hot and cold up to this game and you could have said Iowa was doing the same. And as it turned out, this would be one of the tightest games of the year for the Hawkeyes who lost to the Wildcats in overtime.
Once again, the offense, which had exploded for 45 points the previous week, could not get much going. Stanley was not as productive throwing for just one touchdown and 223 yards. He was sacked twice. Tight end Noah Fant did catch that one touchdown pass, a seven-yarder so in the absence of an outstanding effort from any one player, Fant can be the offensive player of the game because he scored the Hawks’ only touchdown.
The defense was missing Jewell who sat out because of the shoulder injury he suffered the previous week. The player that stepped up and played well against Northwestern was Bo Bower. Bower registered 12 tackles that day and helped keep the game close. You will notice that the Hawkeyes’ defense played well in every game up to this point. With performances like Bower’s, it’s easy to see why they were so good on defense. They have a lot of playmakers on that side of the ball.
Iowa would head back to Iowa City to take on Minnesota stinging from the close loss to Northwestern.
