Iowa 31 North Texas 14

This game was closer than the score indicates. Iowa didn’t get going until the third quarter. A pass from Stanley to Fant helped get things going even more for the Hawks. Then they got two runs by Ivory Kelly-Martin to seal it up. For his efforts, we should give Kelly-Martin offensive player of the game. He spelled a banged-up Wadley and helped get Iowa into the end zone to get the win.

On defense, the player of the game is Parker Hessey. Hessey had three tackles, a sack, two tackles for a loss and one forced fumble on the day. Guys like Jackson, Manny Rugamba and Miles Taylor had big games as well.

There was some concern coming out of this that Iowa didn’t “crush” North Texas like they should have. North Texas was supposed to be a much “weaker” opponent and wasn’t supposed to have the talent to keep up with the Hawkeyes. But they did for a half and gave fans a little something to be worried about. They stepped down to their competition and could have lost the game. This proved that the Hawkeyes still had some work to do.
