Teams are nearing the ‘all important’ week 3 games of preseason, and that means we are ever approaching the big cut downs for NFL teams. The Hawkeyes are surely going to have a well-represented number of players in NFL uniforms come week 1 games.

One of the few highlights for the LA Chargers in week 2 of preseason was the continued strong play of Hawkeye great Dez King. King flashed his ‘ballhawking’ skills in professional debut with an interception, and showed more versatility with two tackles and a sack in the game against the Saints.

King is taking to the NFL speed so far, like a fish to water seemingly, and continues to standout. Could King be in the running for Defensive Rookie of The Year. Stay tuned.

King’s cornermate Greg Mabin got his first interception in the NFL for the Bills, also adding 2 tackles. His teammate Micah Hyde also had a tackle in his debut for Buffalo.

Mike Meyer who had a strong debut kicking behind Pro Bowler Matt Bryant for the Falcons didn’t get a chance to kick in week 2, but he could be on other teams radars. Fellow kicker Marshall Koehn made his lone attempt for the Vikings from 29 yards, as he continues his camp battle with the veteran Kai Forbath.

Koehn’s Minnesota teammate Jaleel Johnson tied for the team lead in the Vikings loss to the Seahawks with 4 total tackles. The Seahawks also were added to the teams with a Hawkeye on them; acquiring veteran offensive lineman Matt Tobin from the Eagles.

Wide Receiver Riley McCarron had 3 catches for 6 yards as he aims to make the Texans under Bill O’Brien. He also saw a kick return.
