The kickoff of camp Sunday in preparation for the Hawkeyes 2017 season was a welcomed return for Iowa fans. And, Monday more positive news came with the pledge of Indiana defensive back Larry Tracy.

Adding to the early impressive group for the class of 2019 recruiting cycle, Tracy becomes the fourth known Iowa pledge to that class. The others include Iowa offensive lineman Ezra Miller and Tyler Endres. Illinois tight end Logan Lee also pledged to the Hawkeyes in June.

The addition of Tracy was the first public pledge to the Hawkeyes since July 12th when tight end Anthony Torres committed to the Hawks.

Tracy is the cousin of 2018 Iowa pledge Tyrone Tracy who is expected to come to Iowa next season as a wide receiver. The ‘pipeline’ of players from Indiana to Iowa City could continue soon. The #4 and #5 players in the state per 24/7 Sports in DJ Johnson and Julius Brents are thought to be considering the Hawkeyes.

This run of players including last years recruiting cycle of young secondary players will be very integral in the Hawkeyes success the next few seasons. After losing the starting corners this off-season to the NFL in Desmond King and Greg Mabin, the Hawkeyes only have one senior in the back-end in Miles Taylor.

The Hawkeyes now rank 6th in the 24/7 Sports rankings for the 2019 recruiting cycle, first in the Big Ten. It is very early to celebrate that however, with 17 months until that class can potentially sign. The upcoming 2018 class is ranked 12th in the Big Ten, but has the second to least amount of pledges (11), with only Nebraska with less (10).

Youthful players will have to grow up quick against some of the best playmaking quarterbacks in the country such as JT Barrett, Josh Allen and Tracey McSorley. That is why the position battles this August at wide receiver and the secondary are among the most intriguing for this Iowa team.
