The junior from Franklin, Michigan was the heir apparent after CJ Beathard to the quarterback position in many fans minds when Jake Rudock transferred to Michigan. Last season he was passed up for #2 on the depth chart by true freshmen Nathan Stanley.

The 6th ranked high school player coming out of Michigan according to 24/7 Sports, Wiegers has had limited time under center the past two seasons after red-shirting.

From all accounts the race with Stanley is neck and neck at this point, and any gains Stanley created last season have evened out. Wiegers is credited for his on-point accuracy, and has clearly the most experience on campus, in the Hawkeye system.

If Wiegers doesn’t win the job, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he brings his gifts to another program where he could make a definite impact.
