Should Iowa fans be alarmed that both Brandon Hutton and Andrew Fleming bolted out of the Iowa program?

Kenny: Not really.  Transferring is becoming more and more common in college basketball.  Fleming transferring makes sense, because he was buried on the bench, despite fellow sharpshooter Brady Ellingson struggling mightily during conference play.

I was a little surprised that Hutton transferred, considering he redshirted this season and didn’t play a game at Iowa, but to each his own, I guess.  To be honest, unless somebody like Peter Jok or Dom Uhl transferred, I don’t really think it’s a big deal, especially if it’s a freshman or underclassmen.

Derek: Alarmed? Not at all. It’s easy to understand the logic behind both players’ decisions to transfer. That’s part of the process of getting multiple players who can play the same role on a team but having a finite number of minutes to distribute. If Peter Jok was transferring, then I would be alarmed.

Dylan: I was a little surprised by the Hutton transfer, but the Fleming transfer you could kind of see coming.  It figured to be either him or Brady Ellingson, but Fleming wound up pulling the trigger and taking his talents elsewhere.  Many fans thought it would be Ellingson because his playing time faded at the end of the year this past season.  I would say they should be surprised.  You know, transferring seems to be a pretty big part of the game now-a-days.

While there are a lot of question marks, it’s kind of exciting because it’s a new chapter in Hawkeye hoops.  While I’ll miss the four seniors from this past team, I am excited to see what these other guys are made out of.
