Iowa Basketball: Big Ten Power Rankings
By Kenny Levine
7. Iowa (20-8, 11-5)
Last Week: 4
Things are getting a little antsy in Iowa City. Just three weeks ago, Iowa was flying high at 10-1 in the conference with many analysts predicting them as a number one seed. Since then, Iowa has lost 4 of 5 and had to survive a close call with lowly Minnesota. While an NCAA Tournament appearance is not in doubt for the Hawkeyes, this recent skid is putting a serious damper on a fantastic start to the season.
Iowa had chances to win both of its games this week. They trailed 59-58 with under 3 minutes left against Wisconsin last Wednesday, and as mentioned were up by 6 with over 4 minutes left against Ohio State. The Hawkeyes were outscored by a combined 21-3 late in those two games (a combined 7 minutes) and lost both of them. This team needs to figure out how to finish a close game late. Iowa does have a chance at a bounce back week as the Big Ten leading Indiana Hoosiers come to Iowa City Tuesday night before Iowa plays at Michigan on Saturday night to end the season.
