The Black and Gold Morning Brew comes out in the mornings to keep Hawkeye fans up to date on what is happening in regards to their Iowa Hawkeyes.

In case you missed it yesterday, former on-campus recruiting coordinator, Kelvin Bell, was promoted to recruiting coordinator by head coach, Kirk Ferentz.  Bell will also take on the task of defensive assistant coach.  Bell came to Iowa as a graduate assistant in 2012 and has since worked his way up the ranks.  This promotion for Bell is very deserving.

I’m not sure who will replace Bell as on-campus recruiting coordinator, but I’m sure that’ll get figured out soon enough.

The Iowa women are in a must-win game tomorrow inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.  They welcome in the bottom feeding Illinois Fighting Illini and will look to close conference play at 8-10.  After dropping their contest to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday, Iowa is going to need to win the game tomorrow and get at least three wins in the Big Ten tournament to have a shot at making the NCAA tournament.

Illinois enters at 9-19 for the year and have lost four out of five games.  They are 2-15 in conference play with both wins coming over the 3-14 Wisconsin Badgers.  This is the first meeting between the two teams on the year and Iowa should coast to a fairly easy victory on Saturday evening.

To wrap up today’s Morning Brew, we’ll touch on the Iowa baseball team.  The Hawkeyes lost again on Friday afternoon to the Indiana State Sycamores by a final score of 11-3, pushing their record to 0-4 on the year.  The Sycamores scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and that was ultimately it for the Hawkeyes.  Iowa did total 10 hits in the contest, which is encouraging, but the pitching just wasn’t there.  Tyler Peyton got roughed up for five earned over the course of three innings.

Mason McCoy led the charge on offense, he had three hits in five at-bats.  Iowa will be back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT against Dartmouth.  C.J. Eldred will get the start for the Hawkeyes.

That’s all I have for today Hawk fans, have a good one and remember to stay locked into Dear Old Gold for constant coverage of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
