No. 4 – Akrum Wadley vs. Northwestern

Leshun Daniels, injured. Jordan Canzeri, injured. And Iowa was playing arguably it’s toughest Big Ten opponent yet.  Hey, Akrum Wadley, it’s your turn.

Well, the sophomore didn’t miss a beat.  With Iowa’s lead backs being out due to injury, Wadley, who is arguably Iowa’s most dynamic running back, stepped in and absolutely punished the Northwestern Wildcats.  Wadley carried the ball 26 times, for 204 yards, and a tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns.

We got a sense of what Wadley could do back in 2014, but he had trouble hanging on to the ball.  When Daniels and Canzeri both went down, I got a little nervous.  Were we going to see the old Wadley or perhaps he fixed his little fumbling problem? He answered that question right away, he had fixed it.

Wadley helped the Hawkeyes rout the Wildcats, in Evanston, by a final of 40-10.

The Hawkeye defense had a big part in the game as well.  Not only did they allow just 10 points all day, but they also allowed just 198 yards of total offense and turned the Wildcats over three separate times.

This game went a long way in the Iowa coaches putting trust back into the talented back, who should see extended time this upcoming season.  Wadley finished the 2015-16 campaign running the ball 83 times for 496 yards and 7 touchdowns.  He also averaged 6 yards per carry.
