Now that the Iowa football season has come to a close, I decided to take a look at some of the recruits the Hawkeyes are bringing in in the class of 2016.  We’ll continue today with Shaun Beyer.

You have to love a home grown kid, which is exactly what Shaun Beyer is.

Beyer played his high school football about 30 minutes north of Iowa City and plans on playing college ball for the Hawkeyes.  He stands 6’5″ and weighs 210 pounds.  Beyer played a host of positions in high school, including six positions on offense.  He played every single position on offense outside of the five offensive line positions.

He is extremely versatile and on film, he looks like a special talent.  In his senior year he totaled 1,535 yards from scrimmage, 17 touchdowns, led the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars in sacks, and averaged about 45 yards per punt.  This kid can do it all.  Oh, and by the way, he led his team all the way to the 4A State Championship game.

His highlight tape really does a good job of showing you what he does best, which is pretty much everything.  He looks like he can help the Hawkeyes on offense or defense, although he’ll likely play tight end.  Beyer displays really nice pass catching ability and seems to have a great understanding of the game.  He could use some work on his route running, but that is easily fixable.

He isn’t faster than everyone on the field, but at the same time, he is.  His strides are so long that defenders are unable to catch him and he finds the end zone.

Right now, new Iowa State Cyclone head coach, Matt Campbell, is making a really hard push to get Beyer to head to Ames, but Beyer doesn’t seem to be budging.

"“I’ve tried to be as respectful as I can and everything (to Campbell), but he really wants me and he wants to meet with me (Thursday) and tell me what their program has to offer and what kind of player I can be for them, But I’m more excited to meet with coach Ferentz and (assistant) coach (Reese) Morgan on Friday.” – Shaun Beyer, hawkcentral.com"

If you don’t believe the words coming out of Beyer’s mouth, we can ask his mother, who tweeted this out.

I’d say Campbell can put in as much work as he wants on this kid, but he isn’t budging.  It seems like every kid that grows up in the Iowa City area has a dream to play for the Hawkeyes and Beyer is no exception.

As National Signing Day rapidly approaches, I’d expect Beyer to sign his letter of intent making him a Hawkeye.  I fully expect him to help the Hawkeyes immensely.
