Senior wide receiver Jonathan Parker will transfer out of Iowa football

A week after Derrick Mitchell Jr announced his decision to transfer out of Iowa football, on Tuesday, wide receiver Jonathan Parker announced he will do the same.

Parker, who originally committed to Iowa as a running back but switched to wide receiver after his freshman season, did not play in 2016 as a junior. A preseason injury caused him to miss the first couple weeks of the season.

That said, he did have a sizable role as a freshman as a kick returner and running back. He returned 24 kickoffs as a freshman, averaging 22.1 yards per kickoff return, and gained 141 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.

He only had one kickoff return and two carries as a sophomore in 2015.

Parker will be a graduate transfer, just like Mitchell, as he graduated in December 2016, so he will not have to sit out a season before playing again.

There’s no indication of where Parker will transfer to for his senior season, but it will be somewhere where he sees playing time.

Parker would have been buried in the depth chart as a senior if he stayed with the Hawkeyes, especially with Akrum Wadley returning for his senior season.
