ACC/Big Ten Challenge Set For Iowa Hawkeyes

Well, the ACC/Big Ten Challenge is set and for the Iowa Hawkeyes it will be no easy task.  Iowa drew the North Carolina Tar Heels and not only do they have to play the talented ACC bunch, they have to play on the road at UNC.  Whoa.

The Tar Heels finished 24-10 overall and 13-5 in the conference last year.  They were a six seed in last years NCAA Tournament and bowed out to the Iowa State Cyclones on a two point loss in the 3rd round.

Roy Williams’ crew returns their best player in Marcus Paige, who averaged 17.5 points per game and around 4 assists per game this past season.  Brice Johnson and J.P. Tokoto will also be main contributors for the Tar Heels come next season.  They’ll bring in 2 Top 10 recruits and another who is ranked 17th.  Justin Jackson, Theo Pinson, and Joel Berry should all contribute next year.

Jackson and Pinson are both small forwards, so they will compete at the three spot and Berry is a point guard who will most likely back up Marcus Paige.

One of the cool things about this game is that Marcus Paige is from Iowa and he played AAU basketball with some of the Hawkeyes on the team.  Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury were teammates with Paige on the AAU circuit.  Iowa missed a gem in Paige, but lets be honest, what were the odds Paige was going to end up at Iowa?

The date will be announced later today.
