After a rough weekend in Iowa City having to battle the nationally ranked Indiana Hoosiers, the Iowa Hawkeyes battled back to take two of two from the Kansas Jayhawks during the week. Iowa won the first game on Tuesday by a score of 5-3 and they took yesterday’s contest by a score of 12-7.
In Tuesday’s contest the top three guys in the lineup, Eric Toole, Jake Mangler, and Dan Potempa each had two hits in the game. Potempa drove in four runs out of the three hole for the Hawkeyes. Blake Hickman made the start for the Hawkeyes, but it was Sasha Keubel who captured the win going five and two thirds, giving up eight hits, and one earned run in that time. The win was Keubel’s third win of the year. A four run fifth inning was the big blow to the Jayhawks.
On Wednesday, the bats exploded for Rick Heller’s team. The Hawkeyes totaled 12 runs on 18 hits and they were led by, Eric Toole. Toole finally had the breakout game folks have been waiting to see from him. Toole had four hits in five trips to the plate and also drive in five runs in the lead off spot.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will now turn their attentions to the Northwestern Wildcats. They will travel to Evanston, IL this weekend for a three game set. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT. Saturday and Sunday’s games will each kick off around 1:00p.m. CT.
