After a tough weekend in Manhattan, Kansas, the Iowa Hawkeye baseball team will once again head down to Florida for the Snowbird Classic. This is a weekend that will feature two games against the Georgetown Hoyas, one against Saint Josephs, and one against Otterbein University.
With all of that information given to you, lets take a look at the teams Iowa will be battling this weekend.
Georgetown: The Hoyas are currently 5-7 and are riding a two game winning streak, although they still have three games against Saint Josephs before they meet Iowa, they are led by Steve Anderson, who is carrying a .354 batting average, with 17 hits, two doubles, and nine RBI’s. Joining Anderson is Patrick Camporini, who is second on the team with a .351 batting average with 13 hits, 2 doubles, and 6 RBI’s.
Saint Joe: The Hawks are sitting at 5-4 through this first portion of the season, obviously they will have 3 games against Georgetown before they meet Iowa. Saint Joe is led by Brian O’Keefe, who is carrying a .444 batting average, with 16 hits, and eight RBI’s. Chris Hueth sits right behind O’Keefe with a .351 batting average, a team leading 11 runs scored, and 13 hits.
Otterbein: The Cardinals don’t have a lot of game experience under their belts so far this season with a record of 2-1. However, they will get three more games before playing the Hawkeyes. Otterbein is led by David Lemley, who is off to a hot start carrying a .636 batting average, with seven hits, two triples, and four RBI’s. Jake Simmerman has been equally as good for the Cardinals. He’s currently batting .400, with six hits, three doubles, and five RBI’s.
The Hawkeyes will look to get back on track down in Florida after struggling in Kansas. Head coach, Rick Heller, is still in search of his 700th career victory, and if I was putting money on it I’d say he captures it down in Florida.
