Iowa will go on the road for their second straight Big Ten conference game and this time they’ll take on a team that has been so up and down this season, it’s not even funny. Indiana has big wins at home against Michigan and Wisconsin, but has slipped up against teams like Penn State, Illinois, and Northwestern. All of this has them sitting towards the bottom of the conference with a 4-8 conference record.
Indiana is still dangerous especially if they get their guys going, so Iowa will have to be sharp once again during this tough Big Ten battle.
Lets look at keys to the game for both teams.
Yes, Yogi Ferrell has been the guy that has made them go this entire season, but it’s role players like Vonleh and Gordon, who comes off the bench, that solidify Tom Crean’s system. Vonleh has had a very good freshman season and will need to be big on the glass in this one because Iowa comes at you with long athletes that have the ability to rebound well.
Rediscover the intensity!
Where is that fire they had against Michigan and Wisconsin? Yes, it is easy to get up and excited to play ranked teams in your own building, but you have to come out with that kind of emotion every time you play the game. Having slip ups against teams that aren’t as talented like Penn State can’t happen, but Indiana did lose a lot this past season. They’ll need to come out guns-a-blazin if they want a shot at Iowa.
Yogi Ferrell had 25 points in Indiana’s win over Wisconsin and 27 points in their win over Michigan. What does that tell you? You slow down Ferrell, you probably win the game. He’s lightning quick off the bounce and has his days behind the arc. For Iowa, lets just hope Yogi isn’t hitting shots on Tuesday night otherwise it could be a long night for whoever has to guard him and the rest of the team.
Avoid the slip up!
Iowa has done a good job all year avoiding losing that game that would pop out at you. They are through one half of this little two game road trip after they defeated Penn State, which wasn’t exactly too impressive, but they did get out alive. All Iowa needs to do is find a way to get this done, doesn’t matter how. Because after watching Nebraska beat Michigan State in East Lansing earlier today, who knows what the heck is going on in the Big Ten. A win is a win at this juncture and Iowa needs to get it done.
This crazy conference continues to surprise all of us, so lets just hope it doesn’t continue to surprise us on Tuesday night. Iowa has more talent than Indiana, but road games in this conference are no walk in the park. If Iowa does these things, they should leave Bloomington with a big road victory.
The game Tuesday night is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.
