After consistently hiding out in the 20′s of the Associated Press Poll, the Iowa Hawkeyes have jumped all the way to #14 after their big win on the road against the now #11 Ohio State Buckeyes. This also puts the Hawkeyes in the national spotlight.
Sure you could argue that they already were in the national spotlight, but they are now more than ever before. This is also the first time since the Greg Brunner and Jeff Horner days that Iowa has actually been relevant in college basketball. Let’s just hope and pray that this season doesn’t end the way that one did.
Dang Northwestern St!!!
Ok, I got off track.
The Roy Devyn Marble led Hawkeyes appear to be headed for a lot of success in the conference this year, if they can keep winning big road games and then win their home games, all will be well in Iowa City. Too bad it’s not that easy in the Big Ten.
Iowa will most likely lose a few home game to the better competition in the league because well, that’s just the nature of the beast.
I’ve been hearing that 14 is too high for Iowa to be ranked? Ok…. I’m not completely closed-minded, I will think on that side for a little bit, but when you look at the big picture, Iowa has more on their resume that says they should be at 14 as opposed to things that say they shouldn’t.
Three loses, all to teams that are currently ranked in the top 8 and carry a combined 2 loses. If you’re going to lose games, those are the type of games you’re ok with losing. You’re not ok with what Illinois did last night in Evanston against the Wildcats. That got the Illini the boot right out of the top 25.
If all goes as planned against Minnesota this Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa should move up the polls once again. With two road games right after that, Iowa needs the win to keep confidence high. Iowa will go to Ann Arbor on January 22nd to play Michigan and then will play Northwestern in Evanston three days later. Iowa should win all three of these games.
That puts them at 17-3 going into a showdown with Michigan St in Iowa City on January 28th. Tom Izzo’s bunch has 4 games they should win before coming to Iowa City. That would them at 19-1 when they come to Carver Hawkeye Arena.
If all this plays out that way, that would most likely set up a top 8 match up, but who knows.
Oh and wouldn’t you just love to be at CHA when all this goes down. However, we’ll have to see what happens between now and then. The Big Ten is a cruel beast sometimes and anyone can be taken down.
Bottom line is, if you’re a Hawkeye fan, Carver Hawkeye Arena is home to hottest show in Iowa.
