The LSU Tigers are an athletic group of football players that know how to play the game at a very high level. That level is so high they remind Iowa head coach, Kirk Ferentz, of the teams that play on Sundays.
“They’re like a pro team in a lot of ways. … They’re very athletic, very physical, very skilled. They are outstanding in a lot of ways.’’ - Kirk Ferentz, qctimes.com
This is a team that includes a 1,000 yard rusher in Jeremy Hill and two 1,000 yard receivers in Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. Hill is a big physical back. At 6’2″ 235 lbs he’s a load to handle and the Hawkeye front line will have their hands full come January 1st.
Jarvis Landry isn’t the biggest receiver, but his ability to go up and catch passes helps the fact that he’s just 6′ tall. Odell Beckham is the same type of receiver as Landry and having two of this type of receiver is a match up nightmare for defenses. They’ve combined for 18 touchdown catches this year. The Tigers as a team have only passed for 23 touchdowns all year. That should tell you how much these guys are targeted.
“They have a very athletic group of receivers, very experienced. … It will be a real test for us.’’ – Tanner Miller, qctimes.com
The good thing for the Hawkeyes is they have a bunch of time to prepare and plan for this high powered offense. And if you give Kirk Ferentz and his staff time to prepare for a team, the Hawkeyes usually perform well. The same goes for Les Miles and his staff.
The bottom line here is that the Hawkeyes will be ready. There will be no surprises come New Years Day. That means there should be no excuses for any mental lapses.
“They’ve got our attention and we’re ready to go to work.” – Anthony Hitchens, qctimes.com
