IOWA CITY – Sometimes preseason hype is a good thing.
The Big Ten Network (BTN) announced today its men’s basketball television schedule, which includes seven Iowa league games on the network and the potential of two more.
Iowa home games versus Nebraska (Dec. 31) and Minnesota (Jan. 19) will air live on BTN, while fans can watch road contests at Wisconsin (Jan. 5), Michigan (Jan. 22), Northwestern (Jan. 25), Illinois (Feb. 1) and Minnesota (Feb. 25) on the network or BTN2GO.
The Hawkeyes are reaping the benefit from a spike in national presence as a result of their runner-up finish in the NIT last season. Iowa returns all its starters from a season ago in which they finished 21-12 overall and 9-9 in the Big 10 and are predicted by many to make a play for the conference title and NCAA Tournament berth this season.
Iowa’s final two home games against Purdue (March 1 or 2) and Illinois (March 8 or 9) are television wildcard games. If selected, BTN would broadcast Hawkeye games on March 1 and March 8, while CBS has the rights to March 2 and March 9.
The Hawkeyes’ remaining nine league games are slated to be televised on an ESPN platform or CBS, including eight on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
The remainder of Iowa’s non-conference television schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
The Iowa men’s basketball team will hold its annual media day Oct. 9, beginning at 2 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
