Iowa linebacker James Morris saw teammate B.J. Lowery getting all the attention last week and figured it was his turn.
Morris had eight tackles, a sack and an interception in a 23-7 win over Minnesota. For his efforts, Morris earned Big 10 Player of the Week honors on defense,
A week ago, Lowery had two interceptions for touchdowns in Iowa’s 59-3 drubbing of Western Michigan. Lowery won the same honor for his efforts. Morris, a senior for Solon, Iowa, came to Iowa as a fullback but quickly found his niche on the other side of the ball.
“I think it’s just being in the right position,” Morris said of his second interception this season. “The quarterback has to throw the ball right. . . At the same time we have to make the right plays.”
For his career, Morris has eight games of at least 15 tackles and has more than 300 total. All three of Iowa’s linebackers (Chris Kirksey, Anthony Hitchens) are on the Butkus Award watch list.
